Autumn Ayurvedic Cleanse

Autumn Ayurvedic Cleanse
Wednesday Oct 6 - Oct 20th
Live-Stream on Zoom
Noël Graupner & Pavanjeet Nikola
Price $108 (+ Supplies)

At the end of summer our body and minds carry accumulated heat which causes systemic dryness, setting the stage for seasonal illness like allergies, colds and flus. This guided, group-oriented at-home 7-Day Ayurvedic Cleanse will support the body to release heat, toxins and stress, resulting in internal peace and strengthened immunity. Aligned between the first new and full moons of Autumn, this unique cleanse — a combination of a kitchari-monodiet and daily rituals — will create the relaxed state required for the body to truly release and cleanse. A video-guided daily 20 minute home practice of yoga and breathwork will support your mind and body throughout the cleansing process.

We begin with a workshop on the New Moon Wednesday, October 6th, setting intentions, outlining what and what not to do during your cleanse, and inviting participants to begin preparing for the cleanse by collecting supplies and adjusting diet to eliminate processed foods, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, raw foods and animal products. The heart of this process is a 7-day mono-diet of Ayurvedic kitchari, a porridge of spiced mung beans and rice. Our recipe will become a nourishing medicine for the body to restore digestive capacity and immune function. Just as important as easing in, we’ll ease out together by continuing the at home yoga practice and slowly adding fruits and vegetables back into our diets. Our journey together culminates on the Full Moon, Wednesday Oct 20th, where we will meet for a final workshop to reflect on and integrate your experience, moving forward feeling renewed.

What’s Included:

  • New Moon to Full Moon Daily Yoga & Breathwork Practice Video

  • Cleanse Manual with shopping list, recipes and cleanse guidelines

  • 14 days of cleanse support with 7 days of group kitchari cleansing

  • New Moon, Mid-Cleanse and Full Moon Live-Stream Zoom Sessions

  • Support group, Q&A and check-ins through a Whatsapp group

Live-Stream Zoom Class Schedule:

  • Wednesday, October 6 7:30-9:00PM EST New Moon Introduction & Intention Ceremony

  • Wednesday, October 13 7:30-9:00PM EST: Mid-Cleanse Check-In

  • Wednesday, October 20 7:30-9:00PM EST: Full Moon Reflection, Integration & Closing Ceremony

Why + How to Spring Cleanse with Āyurveda

Āyurveda is a Sanskrit word meaning “life knowledge.” It is the name of the world’s oldest holistic health system, which offers unique insight into creating balance among all facets of wellness — physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual — using tools such as diet, plant remedies, daily schedule and lifestyle practices, movement and yoga, meditation, breath work, color, and aromatherapy to establish harmony between body, mind, and the natural world.

Āyurveda recommends a cleanse to accompany a change in season, to clear + open physiological and psychological channels in the body and mind. Spring is an especially important time of the year when nature re-awakes from the long, heavy winter and provides us with all the food- and herb-tools we need to rid the body of excess fats and heavy proteins which keep toxins (environmental, emotional) bound in bodily tissues. A Spring cleanse helps the body to identify stored fat tissue as useable energy, retraining and firing up digestive capacity within the GI tract, bodily tissues, and the mind.

Accumulated and stored toxins are brought to the surface of tissues and gently escorted out through elimination channels. The result of the Spring Cleanse are empowered digestive and immune systems as well as a purified mind to transition gracefully and energetically from the heavy, dulled winter into the light, auspicious Springtime.

During this evening workshop, you will learn not only why it is important to support the internal organs and the sense organs with a cleanse, but how to do it yourself at home with a step-by-step guide including information on practical daily routines, supportive herbs and teas, as well as a discussion of the mono-diet of kitchari – a blend of split moong beans, basmati rice and digestive spices that is satisfying to the palate and detoxifying for your entire organism.

*This class is a great introduction to the Ayurvedic Spring Cleanse Retreat at Menla, May 23-27.

Spring Kitchari Cleanse at Hari NYC

For many, the journey to Ayurveda arrives from the bountiful relationship with yoga, when we realize the practices of asana, pranayam, and meditation are shared components of the Ayurvedic life sciences. The Cleansing/Panchakarma traditions of India are ancient, yet powerful, and enable deep healing. Through Panchakarma, we are able to address many of the acute and equivocal factors of dis-ease at the roots of the matter.

The Treehouse and I are teaming up to offer kundalini yogis a unique opportunity to learn about Yoga's sister science, Ayurveda, and experience a comprehensive Ayurvedic Spring cleanse (also known as Panchakarma) which includes diet, herbal, and movement purification practices aimed at helping the body identify stored winter fat tissue as useable energy, resetting the metabolic function and digestive capacity of all the tissue layers of the body.

Accumulated and stored toxins are brought to the surface of tissues and gently escorted out through elimination channels. The result of the Spring Panchakarma are empowered digestive and immune systems as well as a purified mind to transition gracefully and energetically from the heavy, dulled winter into the light, auspicious Springtime.

The cleanse will be offered in 3-, 5-, and 7- day packages, and will include a daily 3-meal supply of Ayurvedic kitchari*, daily herbal tisanes*, a jar of Noël’s home made ghee*, a pouch of triphala*. A complete toolkit containing Ayurvedic cleansing tools and oils (herbalized body massage oil, herbalized oil-pulling oil, herbalized nasya oil, copper tongue scraper, copper neti pot, thymed-neti salt) may also be purchased separately from Noël for $130.

PRICES
$135 3-day cleanse
$225 5-day cleanse
$300 7-day cleanse

Daily kitchari and tisanes may be picked up at The Treehouse after morning Sadhana, between 7-8am.

*All organic ingredients

*An orientation class will be offered Sunday March 11 from 2:30-3:45PM on Ayurvedic and Panchakarma theory and is highly recommended but not mandatory to participate in the cleanse.

Why + How to Spring Cleanse Workshop

In Ayurveda, an ancient medical science from India, toxins that accumulate in the body are called ama. These toxins result from the accumulation of impurities in our bodies as a result of improper diet, chronic stress, and exposure to chemical pollutants in the products we engage with and environments within which we operate. Symptoms of ama accumulation are lethargy, low energy, generalized aches and pains, lack of mental clarity, heaviness in the body, digestive problems (such as constipation, gas, bloating, acidity, heartburn…), weakened immune system, frequent colds and sinus infections, coated tongue, body odor, etc.

Ayurveda recommends a cleanse to accompany a change in season, to clear + open physiological and psychological channels and to rid the body of this ama accumulation. Spring is an especially important time of the year when nature re-awakes from the long, heavy winter and provides us with all the food- and herb-tools we need to rid the body of excess fats and heavy proteins which keep toxins bound in bodily tissues! A Spring cleanse helps the body to identify stored fat tissue as useable energy, retraining and firing up digestive capacity within the GI tract, bodily tissues, and the mind.

During this hour long class, I will introduce participants to the traditional Ayurvedic Spring Cleanse, called Panchakarma, daily routines, herbs, as well as a kitchari recipe that are satisfying to the palate and detoxifying for your entire organism. You will learn not only why it is important to detoxify the internal organs and the sense organs, but how to do it yourself with a step-by-step practical guide. This is a great opportunity to learn more about joining in on The Treehouse’s first group kitchari cleanse beginning March 21.

More on Ayurveda: Translated as ‘knowledge of life’, Ayurveda is a holistic philosophy that teaches  how to live a healthy, wholesome life by cultivating  balance in your unique body, min and spirit. Ayurveda's wisdom invites you to move into witness, into observing yourself in the present moment to become conscious of how you feel. What are the qualities of the sensations and emotions your body and mind are experiencing? How are these qualities influencing the way you perceive the world, the project yourself back out into it? How do you want to feel?

Mind Body Detox with Nicole Centeno of Splendid Spoon

Join Nicole Centeno and Noël Graupner for a workshop on the mind-body detox.

This workshop is designed to guide you into a deeper connection with the natural rhythms of the body and mind using the principles of Ayurveda and mindfulness practice. The idea of a detox or cleanse has been misappropriated in many ways in recent years, but it is true that our modern environment (incessant technology, over abundance of sweets, processed food and alcohol, pressure to socialize) causes undue stress on our physiology. We’ll provide you with tools to help your digestive system rest and strengthen. This is wonderful medicine any time of year but particularly powerful after a full holiday season.

Intro to Ayurvedic Marma Point Therapy

Intro to Ayurvedic Marma Point Therapy

Do you wake up in the morning feeling stressed, or find yourself feeling anxious throughout the day? Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Do your joints crack, are your muscles tight and inflexible? Is your skin feeling dry and lacking luster? Ayurveda's acupressure system of marma point therapy and practice of warm oil massage can help your body and mind cope and release the regular stressors and strains of daily life.

Marmas are vital points located on the surface of the body that connected to both gross and subtle channels and pathways in the body system. They are ‘vital’ because they are infused with energy, what in Ayurveda is called prana, or Life-Love-Evolutionary-Energy-Force which is imbued with consciousness; marma points are where consciousness is expressed.

Anatomically a marma is a juncture on the body where two or more types of tissue meet (i.e. veins, arteries, tendons, muscles, bones, joints); marmas connect nerve endings throughout the body. During this 2 hour class we will discuss the basics of marma theory and learn a number of useful marma points that you can activate on your own body to manage stress, calm your central and autonomic nervous systems. We will also learn the art of daily morning abhyangaoil massage, in addition to an evening foot massage utilizing marma points to activate detoxification, relieve stress, ultimately bringing on deep relaxation.

In the original Ayurvedic text, Charaka Samhita, it is written: 'The body of one who uses oil massage regularly does not become affected much even if subjected to injury or strenuous work. By using oil massage daily, a person is endowed with pleasant touch, trimmed body parts and becomes strong, charming and least affected by old age.'

The Sanskrit word sneha has a shared meaning of ‘oil’ and ‘love’ as it is believed the effects of a good massage are akin to the feeling of being saturated with love!! Each participant will receive a bottle of herbalized massage oil made by Noël to practice these techniques at home. Handouts will be given, but please bring a pen and paper to take notes! Tea will be served.

INTRO TO AYURVEDA >> A FOUR-WEEK COURSE

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word meaning life knowledge. It is the name of the world's oldest comprehensive health system, one which offers unique insight into creating balance among all realms of wellness - physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual - using tools like diet and plant remedy, daily schedule and lifestyle practices, movement and yoga, meditation, color, and aromatherapy to create harmony between the mind, body, and natural world.

Balance in mind and body is divine, natural order according to Ayurveda. Balance is our true nature and can otherwise be defined as health and happiness. This compact, four session course will cover the Ayurvedic theory of the five elements, used to determine one’s unique mind-body type and constitution which can be understood as one’s true nature. Food and herbs will be explained through the theory of the six tastes and basic diet guidelines for each mind-body type will be discussed. Following will be an explanation of the anatomy and metabolism of the seven tissue layers of the body, how physiological imbalances develop along with how they can be properly identified, eliminated, and prevented in the future. We will tie all the information together with a session on lifestyle habits, how to structure your decision making throughout the day and the year with practical guidelines and calls to action.

The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the principles of Ayurveda that teach how, through diet, lifestyle, and other methods, individuals can move towards a place of balance, of health and happiness. Each class will be a combination of lecture and group discussion.

Join me at the Just Food Conference ! I will be speaking alongside a number of innovators in the agricultural, food policy + justice, health and wellness space. My topic is Ayurvedic Seasonal Eating; I will be presenting on Sunday afternoon.

Seasonal eating is a major tenant of the Ayurvedic (holistic medical) sciences. In this class, we will learn about the fundamentals of Ayurvedic theory as a guide to understanding why it is important to eat seasonally to promote health within the body and mind. We will explore the ‘menu change’ that Mother Nature is 'serving' as we transition in NY from Winter into the Spring. Then, we will examine local Spring seasonal foods/herbs and discuss how these predominantly bitter and astringent ingredients support health, as well as how to incorporate them into home recipes.

This compact, three session course will cover the Ayurvedic theory of the five elements, used to determine one’s unique mind-body type and constitution which can be understood as one’s true nature. Following will be an explanation of how physiological imbalances develop along with how they can be properly identified, eliminated, and prevented in the future. Guidelines for how to approach each day through lifestyle and dietary ritual will be discussed, followed by an explanation of Ayurvedic approach to food and dietary recommendation for each mind-body type

The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the principles of Ayurveda that teach how, through diet, lifestyle, and other methods, individuals can move towards a place of balance, of health and happiness. Each class will be a combination of lecture and group discussion. Handouts will be given and taking notes will be encouraged. Classes are three hours length and will begin promptly at 7.

Light assignments may be given between classes. Beverages and small bites will be served, and at the end of each class, students will receive a tool to take home, to incorporate these teachings into their daily life.

UPLIFT 011: CHANGE OF HEART

HOW TO AMPLIFY THE POWER OF YOUR HEART

SATURDAY, November 12, 2016 9:30AM- 6PM  &  SUNDAY, November 13, 2016 9:30AM-5PM

We’re excited to announce our second annual weekend gathering in NYC!

Change starts from within. We’ve decided to focus on the center point, the heart. Did you know that your heart emits electromagnetic fields which change according to our emotions? These magnetic fields can be measured up to several feet away from the body; the nature of them- whether positive or negative- can greatly influence our physiology and those around us. Connection to our heart is an important aspect of developing compassion. When we care for our heart, we are best suited to care for ourselves and others.

The weekend will include knowledge talks and experiences by:
Theo Burkhardt, Vedic Meditation Teacher
Hari Kaur Khalsa, Kundalini Master
Noël Graupner, Ayurvedic Nutritionist
Sara Auster, Sound Therapy Practitioner

Tickets are $460 and include:
*Guided meditation and discussion with Theo Burkhardt
*Kundalini and physical wisdom discussion with Hari
*Ayurvedic health and wellness with Noël Graupner
*Sound meditation with Sara Auster
*Vegetarian meals: breakfast/lunch/snacks daily
*Take-home dinner by Splendid Spoon on Saturday & Sunday
*Saturday evening program and take-home package
*Gift bag valued at $300

A retreat with The Uplift Project will leave you feeling alive and better prepared to successfully interact to the demands of our time.

MUDRAS
Nov

3:30 PM15:30

MUDRAS

Mudra is a Sanskrit word meaning 'gesture' or 'seal'; mudras are symbolic hand gestures found in the art and rituals of the sacred traditions of Buddism, Yog (Hatha Yoga) and Hinduism. These gestures are said to be the outer expression of an enlightened inner state. While mudras are generally associated with the position of the hands, they involve the whole body, and are often integrated into the asanas of yoga practice and meditation.

During these practices, postures open and align energetic channels to allow prana (energy) to move and flow freely within the body; mudras are used to seal this prana within the body, allowing it to build. As this energy collects within us, we can control it's movement and cultivate different states of mind, improve overall natural energy, foster patience, courage, and connect with our innate intuition.

Though the most common mudras are the ones performed as part of formal yogic practice, because they are made using your hands + body they are portable and readily available and can be used at anytime through out the day!! During this class we will learn simple mudras to help you become calmer, more relaxed, and to improve your focus + concentration. We will also learn a series of mudras to open each chakra.

Intro to : Marma Point Therapy & Massage

Do you wake up in the morning feeling stressed, or find yourself feeling anxious throughout the day? Do you have trouble sleeping at night? Do your joints crack, are your muscles tight and inflexible? Is your skin feeling dry and lacking luster? During a seasonal transition into cooler, drier weather, our nervous and detoxification systems need nourishing and support. Ayurveda's acupressure system of Marma point therapy and practice of warm oil massage can really help your body and mind cope and release the regular stressors and strains of daily life!

In the original Ayurvedic text, Charaka Samhita, it is written: The body of one who uses oil massage regularly does not become affected much even if subjected to injury or strenuous work. By using oil massage daily, a person is endowed with pleasant touch, trimmed body parts and becomes strong, charming and least affected by old age.”

During this 2 hour class we will discuss the basics of Marma theory and learn some vital Marma points that can be activated to manage stress, calm the central and autonomic nervous systems. We will learn the art of daily morning Abhyanga as well as an evening foot massage utilizing Marma points to activate detoxification, relieve stress, and bring on deep relaxation. Each participant will receive a bottle of herbalized massage oil made by Noël to practice these techniques at home. The Sanskrit word sneha has a shared meaning of ‘oil’ and ‘love’ as it is believed the effects of a good massage are akin to the feeling of being saturated with love!!

Handouts will be given, but please bring a pen and paper to take notes! Tea will be served.

Intro to Ojas : Ayurvedic Beauty + Happiness Juice

BUILDING OJAS

Do you find yourself feeling timid, anxious or depressed? Does your body or mind feel physically sluggish, weak or fatigued? Does your hair lack luster or your complexion lack a healthy glow?

According to Ayurveda, the world’s most ancient and most comprehensive medical system, these are all signs of feeble or depleted ojas. Ojas is a very subtle essence that is the foundation of immunity and longevity and is responsible for  cheerfulness and joy, radiance, vigor, youthfulness, mental clarity, creativity and serenity. Though it’s subtly makes it immeasurable, Ayurveda describes ojas as a biological substance that results as the end product of healthy digestion and metabolism.

Choosing ojas building/nourishing substances and practices through out the day is literally choosing happiness! In this class, you will learn about the foods and habits that weaken ojas, those that promote and revitalize ojas, and also how to protect your ojas . A warming tonic will be served at the end of class and all participants will leave with a sample of Noël’s ojas rejuvenating tea.
